"For someone like me, an adult, yet a complete beginner with no confidence, Carrie had a..."I started performing at age two, and started my vocal training at age 15. I would perform in every church production. I began my acting experience in 4th grade when I was the lead in our school play. From then on, I received roles in each choir production. I also performed in our school talent show every year.
In high school I performed in Hello Dolly, Working, and Guys and Dolls. Also, I had the privilege to travel to New York City and Toronto, Canada to sing in different venues.
When I started at Houston Baptist University, I received solo opportunities in the choir. My sophomore year I made my way into the top audition choir where we traveled to NYC to sing in Carnegie Hall. My junior year we toured Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Texas singing in different venues. My freshman year at Houston Baptist University I was in the chorus of the opera production Cosi fan Tutti. My sophomore year I received the lead female role in the opera Gianni Schicchi. We also performed a scenes program and I played the lead from Act 2 in The Marriage of Figaro. My junior year we performed the entire opera Marriage of Figaro, and I played the lead role, Susanna. My senior year we performed a scenes program in the winter and I held the role of Ms. Todd in the one act opera Old Maid and the Thief. That Spring I performed the lead role in Little Red Riding Hood.
While learning and performing these roles, I also was involved in the contemporary Christian singing groups for two years at HBU. FOCUS/Refuge are traveling groups who minister through song. We traveled throughout the Houston area, including the surrounding areas. We would sing for different events, including leading worship at many churches. My junior year FOCUS/Refuge recorded our first CD to be sold at our gigs. This was incredibly hard work but extremely rewarding in the end.
I have also recorded in the studio many times cutting demos since I was fourteen. This music ranges from Pop to Christian Worship.
I began my teaching experience my junior and senior year of college. I taught two college students and loved it. I love the joy that I see in people who love to sing and want to learn about the voice. I really enjoy teaching all ages. I am qualified to teach classical, pop, and musical theater.
The voice is my instrument and I take care of it. Therefore, it is important for me to teach my students to do the same. I want my students to have the correct vocal technique instilled in them so they can have the longevity of the voice that it can have.
Each student is different. They all will have something that we will need to focus on. So, the initial lesson we will warm up, talk, stretch, and work on posture. Then we will write down together a lesson plan. I am able to help with preparation of competitions, auditions, interviews. I will do my best as their teacher to meet their vocal needs.
I specialize in classical, pop, and musical theater.
