About Me

Cellist Lynn earned her Bachelors Degree in Music Performance from the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University and her Masters Degree in Music Performance and Pedagogy from Northern Illinois University.

Her former teachers include Marc Johnson (Vermeer Quartet), John Sharp (Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Principal Cellist), and Barry Gold (Los Angeles Philharmonic).

Lynn appeared as a soloist with Crossroads Chamber Orchestra and performed as principal cellist of Roosevelt University Symphony Orchestra and Northern Illinois University Philharmonic. She had also been a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago for two years and performed under the baton of conductors such as Daniel Barenboim, Cliff Colnot, William Eddins, David Robertson and Pierre Boulez.

Her master class performances include those for Stephen Geber, David Hardy, Glenn Garlick and Ronald Leonard. As a chamber musician, Lynn has worked with all four members of the Vemeer Quartet, Cyrus Forough, and world-renowned violinist Vadim Gluzman. As a teacher, Lynn teaches all ages and all levels.

Prior to joining All That Music, Lynn served on the faculties of the Community School of the Arts at Northern Illinois University and Steckman Studio of Music. She also has a home studio in the northwest suburb. Lynn is a certified Suzuki cello teacher who offers both Suzuki and traditional methods. She also teaches beginning piano.

Lesson Details

Students can expect not only to learn to play the instrument, but also basic-to-advanced music theory.  I make learning theory a fun part of the lesson.  I am a very kind and patient person, and my students always feel comfortable talking to me about music.  I constantly encourage them to ask questions.  Besides assigning my choice of music to them, sometimes I also ask students what their favorite pieces are. I find a way to teach those pieces to motivate them even if they are the simplified versions.  For younger students, I make sure to break down the information into the smallest parts so they can digest.

Specialties

I teach classical music. My methods include Suzuki and traditional.
