In 2003, when Road Runner Record company voted me "Best Drummer under 21 on the East Coast," it came as no surprise to my family and close friends, who had been watching me play the drums with different bands since I was 7 years old. As a youngster, I was introduced to all types of music from the Beatles to Kiss to Sinatra. I began playing on stage with a funk and blues band at 7, and by the time I was 14, I was on tour with a heavy rock band which took me to nearly all 50 states, and Europe. I found my passion for teaching drums when I got back home from being on the road. I started giving lessons to my nephews and neices, and eventually that led to neighbors and friends of friends. I have grown up around a large family, with many brothers, sisters, neices, nephews, and cousins. I very much enjoy being around children, and have always found they seem to be drawn to my energy as well. With my recording equipment, it became apparent that using a recorder was an excellent way for my students to have "take home homework" and study what they had learned that day until our next session. It also helps me focus on certain points that the student is having trouble with.
I am extremely versitile as far as my music capabilities go. I can both play and instruct many genres including but not limited to: jazz, classic, heavy rock, funk, r&b, blues, and country. I have taught lessons from intermediate to advanced, and I've given quite a few refresher courses to old pro's.
Having a good energy about yourself is key when meeting and befriending new people and clients. Students who have a sincere yearning to learn new musical abilities will find just how simple it is to have me instructing them. I would consider myself a laid back kind of guy, but I do expect hard work out of my students while I am teaching. Everyone, I mean EVERYONE has musical ability! Sometimes it just takes the right person to help push them along and show them how to better use their skills.
The three P's: Patience, Positivity, and Productiveness! This is what is to be expected while you, the student, are learning under my wing. Following my guidance will not only be fun and creative, but something you will take with you for the rest of your life. I am very flexible with my schedual, and am willing to travel to your home. I look forward to working with you!
Genres include but are not limited to, jazz, funk, rock, country, blues, and R&B. I believe each individual learns differently from one another, and should be taught accordingly.
